Bird Shoal

Another well kept secret, Bird Shoal, offers more for the beach combers and those looking for a quiet place to just "get away." Local legend says that it got its name from a captain who saw birds on the shoal.

On the island, you will find 2 1/2 miles of pristine beach, a great view of the Beaufort Inlet and a beautiful sunset. This is also a local spot for finding sand dollars and smaller shells.

Want horses too? You're in luck! As part of the Rachel Carson estuary, at low tide the horses can cross from one island to the next, moving on to pastures located on Bird Shoals.

The shallow protected waters offer excellent swimming and snorkeling opportunities.
